Together with his twin brother Jan CAPKOVIC
started in
Cervena hviezda (currently ASK
Inter Bratislava) and together
came to SK
Slovan Bratislava as a forwards. Jan started to
represent Czechoslovakia much sooner as
a left wing.
Jozef CAPKOVIC was looking for a right position for him
for a long time. From the attack came
to midfield and in the end
he anchored in the middle of the defense.
He was fast, agile, and
played without mistakes.
First time dressed a Czechoslovak national jersey in 1974
in the match against German Democratic
republic (3 : 1). Since
then represented Czechoslovakia 16 times
and together with
Anton Ondrus
created a great defensive duo.
Played in European
championship 1976 (Beograd), where
Czechoslovakia became a champion, and
in the semifinal match
against Netherlands took care of Johan
Cruif, who could not do
anything, but to be frustrated by his
opponent's Jozef Capkovic
defense. Played in the final
match against West Germany as well.
